A Win : Kyle Miller

A Win

by Kyle & Vanessa on 05/22/12

Today we met with Dr. Tawbi at the Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh.  What a refreshing experience!! Dr. T was reasonable, optimistic, very friendly and extremely informative.  He was thorough in his assessment of Kyle's case and rather than assuming Doxil was the best route for Kyle, he discussed several treatment options and scenarios for us to consider.  Dr. T reviewed Kyle's recent CT scan from early May and expressed a lot of enthusiasm about the results.  He told us he considers Kyle's decreased tumour size to be a significant change and thinks we should definitely give Doxil a shot, since it is likely to have the same positive effect and minimal impact on Kyle's heart.  He recommends that we start with two cycles of Doxil, followed by CT and MUGA scans to check on Kyle's progress with the drug and to ensure his ticker is doing ok too.

The cancer center has a supply of Doxil on hand, therefore the plan is for Kyle to start chemo here in Pittsburgh on Friday morning...he will go in as an outpatient, which means if all goes well, he should be ok for us to go back home to Toronto on Friday afternoon/evening.  Since we have to go back to the hospital tomorrow afternoon to meet with the financial team, we plan to stay for the week, rather than drive back and forth to be here for chemo Friday.

After such a great day at the hospital, we decided to celebrate and had a night out at the baseball game.  The Pirates lost tonight...but we consider today to have been a win for us!

Talk soon,

Vanessa xoxo

Great news, finally something positive which is what you both deserve. First and foremost you are blessed to have found each other, some things are meant to be. Do not worry about anything other than getting what you need to kick cancers ass and everything else will fall into place. Love you both and my prayers are on going. Love Sue
