The damage

We've spent the last few days in the Pittsburgh area awaiting the final details of Kyle's treatment scheduled for tomorrow morning and particularly waiting to find out what the damage is going to be. We thought we were prepared for the news, but boy did it hurt once we got the final number. Since Kyle is going to be treated as an outpatient, (lets all say our prayers tonight that he remains healthy enough to be treated as an outpatient) we're supposedly getting a 'super discount' on the fees - $15,500 per treatment! We won't see a breakdown of the costs until we get the final bill once treatment is completed, but they claim 95% of the amount is in the cost of Doxil.
Even though we are completely blown away by the cost, we don't really have much choice but to proceed with treatment tomorrow. I contacted the team at Mt. Sinai this morning just to make sure they hadn't come up with any leads on Doxil/Caelyx within Canada, but unfortunately they hadn't.
Thanks to the support of many of you who contributed to some of the fundraisers over the last several months, and to Kyle's parents (who would pretty much do anything for him) the first treatment has been covered.
Since summer is around the corner, we've decided to expand the 'Beat It.' line...click here to see what Kyle's come up with! Proceeds from these items will help to fund future medical bills. We'll work on getting some more pictures of the items up soon. Once again we greatly appreciate your support; we couldn't do this without all of you!!
Kyle's scheduled to go in for treatment at the Hillman Cancer Center tomorrow at 12pm...assuming all goes well, we should be on our way back to Toronto by around 5. I will keep you posted on the events of tomorrow, but hoping things run smoothly and it will be pretty uneventful!
